This internship will be an intensive 5 days of hands on learning and training. You’ll experience everything from the basics of “sit” and “down” to “Gee” and “Haw” and the harnessing and mushing of working sled dogs in action!
Take a look at temperament
with the expert eye of Sue Sternberg. Learn to observe and interpret dog- dog
interactions of over 40 working sled dogs in their “real world” kennel and
working environments. Experience daily
management and husbandry routines up
close and personal (get ready to get your hands dirty and jump on in to help!).
Learn to train and observe your own “team” of dogs for basic behaviors and
manners. Coach real life owners and mushers on the “how to” of training and
management for their working teams. Enjoy open discussion sessions on an array
of dog topics from training techniques to controversial issues relevant in the
world of dog training today. Get your minds filled and your hands dirty as you
experience daily interactions with dogs (and people) of all ages, from puppies
to young adults and retired working dogs.
This hands on working experience will be like no other. With a 3 to 1 dog to handler ratio, there will be plenty of opportunity to jump in with both feet to the amazing world of dogs, their language and their perspective! Come and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of Eden Mountain, Vermont and take in 5 intense days with dogs. What more could a dog trainer ask for!
Sue and Leslie always have
a few “tricks” up their sleeve, so be prepared to learn and laugh and appreciate
dogs and their owners from a whole new perspective. They are both dog sport
addicts, particularly mushing, bikejoring and canicross, so be prepared to open
your mind and try new things, even riding behind a pair of dogs traveling over
15mph. You just never know what fun they might throw at you!
Cost for the 5 day intensive adventure is $1800 and is all inclusive with 3 meals a day and lodging. This internship is limited to 10 participants to allow for maximum dog exposure and working time. All interns will lodge on site in one of 2 cabins. Rest assured though that while sharing space with a few others, there is plenty of room, lots of hot water, kitchens and indoor bathrooms.
